Learning to ride, we're here to assist

learn to ride a bikeLearning to ride a bike for the first time, or coming back to the sport, we are to assist.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single spin (step!)  So, congratulations on taking the hardest first step.  We know how hard it can be.  This page pulls together over 20 years of cycling experience to save you the time and hassle of making the same mistakes as we did!

Shall I learn to ride?
Cycling Rocks!  It keeps you in trim, makes you happier and saves you pennies.  Not to say the benefit cycling has by reducing pollution and congestion.

Just check out the (ever expanding) benefits of cycling.

Can I learn to ride a bike?
Whatever your age or ability we can teach you ride a bike.  We guarantee it!

Shall I buy a bike?
There is 1 bike for every two people in the UK so chances are a friend or family member has a bike you may be able to borrow for the first couple of rides.  If not, we can arrange a bike for you to use.

How much does it cost?
Cycling can be very cheap or v.v. expensive (check out the worlds most expensive bike, a cool £55k!).

You can get going (bike, lights, reflectors, pumps) for less than £70 if you want to buy new.  Alternatively, check out websites such as Freecycle or eBay where bikes can be got for free/ v. cheap.

Posting a Wanted ad in your local post office or ask around school is typically a cheaper approach than buying direct.  We work with leading suppliers, so if you want further advise or assistance we'd be happy to help.

What if I buy the bike and don't like it?
There's a vibrant second hand market on and off-line for bikes (hey, we might even take it off your hands!)

What kind  of bike shall I buy?
Choosing the right set of wheels there are loads of different bikes to choose from – such as road-racing, mountain, BMX or hybrid – decide what you want a bike for then visit your local bike shop to find out which one suits you best.

What about theft?
Put a lock on it around 150,000 bicycles are stolen across Britain every year, so don't let yours be one of them – get a lock and put it through the frame wherever you leave your bike, taking anything that is easy to nick with you (lights, pumps etc).

What do I need to buy for it?
Whatever the weather if you're likely to be cycling every day, you might want to invest in some waterproof gear to keep yourself dry on your way in to school or work (you can pick up over-trousers and waterproof jackets at cycling shops or outdoor stores).

How will I get it home from the shop?
You could ride it.  Failing that some buses and most trains allow bikes.  Or try to collar a friend/ family member to give you a ride, after all you're about to embark on something pretty amazing with your bike!

What, learn to ride ride!!
Yep, millions have found cycling makes a real positive difference in their lives.  Whether you are learning to ride a bike for the first time or coming back to the sports, give it a try, you might just like it: )
